Jim Kent
Jim Kent fue un personaje principal y era administrador del CDC. Trabajó junto a Eph y Nora en la investigación y el control del brote. En secreto, cayó bajo la influencia de Thomas Eichhorst, un Strigoi que trabaja para el amo, lo que ayudó a propagar la Enfermedad al permitir, por vez primera que la camioneta con el ataúd pasara por alto la seguridad en el aeropuerto internacional John F. Kennedy, a pesar de que se lamentara después.
Jim estaba convencido de que colaboró con Eichhorst a cambio de que su esposa fuera incluida en un ensayo clínico de un anticuerpo monoclonal que mostró resultados prometedores contra el cáncer que esta sufría…
Se trataba de los Fluidos Blancos del Amo. Eichhorst explica que la empresa para la que trabaja (A través de Eldritch Palmer) financia el proyecto de investigación, y Kent acepta el chantaje con resignación.

Jim Kent is a main character and was a CDC administrator who worked alongside Ephraim Goodweather and Nora Martinez in investigating and controlling the vampire outbreak. He secretly fell under the influence of Thomas Eichhorst, a vampire working for the Master.
Jim first allowed the van with the coffin to bypass security at John F. Kennedy International Airport, even though he expresses regret later. Jim is persuaded to collaborate with Eichhorst in exchange for his wife to be included in a clinical trial of a monoclonal antibody that showed promising results against her form of cancer.
Eichhorst explains that the company he runs through Eldritch Palmer finances the research project. He became infected by one of the vampires and was executed by Vasiliy Fet, who grabbed a gun while Jim and Ephraim were amid discussion on how they could save him by means of chemo or radiation therapy. Jim reluctantly wanted to be killed fearing he would become a danger to his wife and parents.
In a fleeting scene near the end of the Season 1 episode «Creatures of the Night», Abraham Setrakian mysteriously retrieves a blade from Jim Kent remains after performing an invocation over the body.
This moment is evocative of the Barrow dagger (or perhaps even Sting) wielded by Samwise Gamgee, who was portrayed by Sean Astin in the film adaptation of Tolkien’s classic, ‘The Lord of the Rings’.
According to Del Toro at 2014 San Deigo Comic Con, Sean Austin was cast as Kent because the producers «thought it would be funny to have the most famous sidekick of all times be a betrayer.»
